Toy Terminology (Glossary)
Most toy-related terms are not exclusive to fisting and are used by the general public.
ART AND SCIENCE OF FISTING
The majority of ass players associate the term sex toys with objects that are inserted into a body cavity, specifically, the fist chute. When another fister asks "What butt toys do you have?", he is likely asking about insertables such as dildos, plugs, beads/balls, and spreaders.
In a fister's toybox, there may also be other toys or gear such as restraints, blindfolds, cock rings, masturbators, ball stretchers, and sounding rods. These types of toys are ancillary to hole play and do not contribute to hole development.
Most toy-related terms are not exclusive to fisting and are used by the general public.
From a fisters frame of reference, there are six common reasons for using toys:

[ A ] Cleanout | Crackstuffer's Depth Trainer (DT30). [ B ] Warmup | Hankey's MachoMan (Original). [ C ] Pleasure | Friendly Toys" Bloomer. [ D ] Development | Friendly Toys" Knuckle. (Trainer Kit) [ E ] Rehabilitation | Square Peg Toys" Slink (Extra Large). [ F ] Hemorrhoid Therapy | Topped Toys" Gapekeeper (75).
Large toys often inspire fisting bottoms to develop bigger holes.
Ass players frequently fall into one of three camps regarding toys:
The latter two groups typically find toy play dull or uninspiring and will limit or exclude toy play during fisting session. Enthusiasts are also likely to limit toy play during a session as they prefer fists; however, if their play partners are toy-play fanatics, they will happily participate to accommodate their partners.
Enthusiasts can also be sorted into two categories:
Because most bottoms prefer fists over toys, a session that includes a toybox full of dildos and plugs may never be opened and the toys will remain unused.
Men into ass play might adapt other things for insertion, such as produce, household items, and sports equipment.
Alternative items carry greater risk for injury or unexpected trips to the emergency room. Items should be washed prior to use and never inserted without an extraction method such a string.
Finn Vortex demonstrates the use of a baseball bat as an alternative toy to traditional dildos and plugs.
Various methodologies exist to identify, sort, and group toys:

The SquarePegToys catalog showcases all three genres of dildos and plugs. [ A ] Mel | Phallic dildos are usually characterized by shaft and head. [ B ] Chain Gang | Fantasy dildos mimic animals, technology, or atypical forms. [ C ] Happy Hour Plug | Ergonomic toys match the form and shape of the fist chute.
Traditional type groupings include dildos, plugs, and beads. Dildos are typically cylindrical in nature. Plugs have a bulb and stem. Beads are small balls that can be inserted individually, such as Ben Wa balls, or as a stringed collection.
The modern age has resulted in enhancements to traditional toys. Vibrating functions have been available for decades. E-stim toys send pulsating charges throughout the fist chute, and smart toys allow you or others to control your experience from interfaced apps.
Vibrating toys can work themselves deep into your hole. Wireless bullets and baseless vibrators should never be inserted without an extraction method attached to the toy. Toys that lack large bases should be used with caution. Many vibrating plugs have bases designed to prevent full insertion, but fisters" holes tend to open up with vibrating pressure and can easily swallow small or narrow bases.
Other insertable types include wands, which are similar to dildos, and spreaders, which include scopes and speculums. These types vary in shape and configuration, depending on intended use.

[ A ] Vibrating dildos massage and relax first hole. [ B ] E-stim plugs send electric pulses through fist chute. [ C ] Anal beads strengthen kegel muscles. [ D ] Wands exchange heat and promote temperature play. [ E ] Spreaders pry and stretch the first hole. [ F ] Speculums stretch lower fist chute.
There are three genres for dildos and plugs: phallic, fantasy, and ergonomic.
Phallic dildos and plugs are modeled after the human penis. Most have a coronal ridge (where the head meets the shaft), and many also have balls that function as a base. Some phallic dildos are created from molds of actual hardons, but the majority of phallic dildos are based off an artistic rendition, typically a sculpture or 3D printing.
Phallic-like dildos will have a head, a shaft, and sometimes a set of balls.
Phallic plugs are uncommon due to the necessity of a integrating a stem into the design. Most double-ended dildos of phallic design.
There are several sub-categories of fantasy dildos. The most common include canine, equine, serpentine, tentacle, mythical beast, brachial, and sci-fi. Canine and equine dildos are based of the erections of stallions and sire dogs. Equine dildos typically feature a flared head and preputial ring. Canine dildos feature a bulbous knot to lock or tie the toy in place. Serpentine and tentacle dildos are flexible toys based off of snakes and octopi. Mythical beasts reimagine penis from dragons, werewolves, and sea creatures. Brachial toys approximate the human arm. Sci-fi dildos typically integrate phallic dildos with various themes, including aliens, mechanical technology, and hybrid creatures.
Fantasy plugs can be sorted based on the transition style between the stem and bulb. A gradual transition provides a smooth, seamless experience for both insertion and retraction. In contrast, an abrupt transition creates a distinct ledge that produces a noticeable "pop" during insertion and removal. Fantasy plugs are usually helpful in punch play, prolapse cultivation, and gape development.
Fantasy toys can be plugs or dildos and take all different forms and shapes.
Ergonomic dildos and plugs have designs that complement the anatomy of the fist chute. They usually lack heavy textures, abrupt edges, and firm structural components. Design focuses on easy, trauma free insertions, extractions and extended wear. Ergonomic dildos are often designed by fisters for fisters and are ideal for training for first ring stretches, depth play, and keeping a fist within the rectum.
Square Peg Toys has the largest catalog of ergonomically designed toys on the market.
SquarePegToys Charlie Horse fits into the lower fist chute without causing unnatural stress on the rectum or anus.
Toys can also be classified or grouped based on functional training purpose. The most common designations include hole penetration, width/girth expansion, and depth advancement.
Hole penetration toys, or ring poppers, replicate the experience of taking the thenar prominence (the widest part of the fist). A successful ‘pop’ releases endorphins and produces a respectable amount of pleasure for many fisters.
Most ring poppers are bulbous plugs designed for first hole penetration. The ideal structure of these toys includes a moderately rapid taper immediately after the girthiest part of the toy. The ratio of stem to body can vary, but should follow one of three ratios based on the developmental stage of the hole:
| Skill Level | Bulb | Stem |
|---|---|---|
| Begginner | 4 | 5 |
| Intermediate | 3 | 4 |
| Advanced | 2 | 3 |
| Hand Size | Thenar Prominence* | Wrist |
|---|---|---|
| Large | 7 | 10 |
(2/3rd Size of Plug's Bulb)

(Measured at the Joint)

Ring poppers function best when the stem is 2/3rds the size of the bulb. Larger discrepancies are useful for prolapse development.
Virgin and novice fisters may need to select smaller toys.
Apart from generating euphoria, there are several uses for ring poppers:
Ring poppers for the second hole are uncommon. The type of tissue around the second ring has limited elasticity and is easily torn. Second hole ring poppers should have more gradual tapers than first hole ring poppers. They should also only be used by advanced depth bottoms.
[ A ] The gentle taper on the Gapekeeper series helps in gape development. [ B ] The abrupt taper on the Grip series can help develop prolapse.
There are several silicone vendors that offer ring popping toys. The following suggestions* may help you build your arsenal:
All toys listed have advanced sizes.
Chute stretchers expand the depth and width capacity of the first ring and rectum (the lower fist chute). They help condition the hole for more advanced fisting, including:
Wide and large are relative terms so an objective, fister-oriented baseline is helpful. Most people, when seeing the girth of fisting toys, question "How does that fit in a hole?". Fisters, after a little practice, gobble these things up.

Depth advancement toys, or depth plungers, focus on the upper fist chute, including the second hole, sigmoid colon, and in some cases the descending and transverse colon. Regular use in a training routine accomplishes four goals:
While most 25 cm (10 inch) long toys can penetrate the second hole, the sigmoid needs to be straightened and desensitized to foreign objects by snakes that are larger than 30 cm (12 inches).
Toys can also be categorized by the materials used in their construction. The most common materials are silicone, TPR, TPE, and PVC. Less common materials include latex, rubber, glass, metal, and wood.
There are multiple characteristics by which materials can be sub-categorized, but the three most relevant to anal fisting include:
Composition is relevant when considering which toys to add to your toy arsenal. Being educated about the nuances of toy composition can prevent costly purchasing mistakes.
A borosilicate glass dildo is impact-resistant, non-porous, long-lasting and eco-friendly.
Protocols include standard practices and etiquette followed by the majority of the fisting community. Typically, these are things that new fisters pick up over time.
Etiquette refers to how you treat others in a specific fisting scenario.
Standard Practices refers to common sense behaviors related to fisting activities.
If you are travelling with toys, there are some precautions to consider and some practices that will overt a potentially embarrassing situation.
With any sex toy, there is a chance that airport and railroad security may open your bags for further investigation. Common causes for having your baggage reviewed include:
If you want to avoid embarrassment, pack your toys in a clear, plastic bag on top of your other items in your checked luggage. Agents can open the bag and locate your toy without rummaging through the contents of your suitcase.
Dildos of large size are likely to trigger additional screening.
If you do not have checked baggage, the toy will need to travel in your carry-on. There is a high likelihood your bag will be pulled for additional screening.
The following actions will expedite screening:
Take the bold or timid option when being screened. Proudly proclaim "it's a sex toy!" if you are bold or ask for a private screening if you are timid.

[ A ] Avoid packing poppers and toys together in the same bag to prevent confiscation of your poppers. [ B ] FFausten travel packets will not trigger additional screenings.
Avoid bringing sex toys into these countries:
Islamic countries tend to be more uptight about how un-tight your hole is. Avoid packing sex toys when travelling to any such country.
