Journey and Destination

A very common piece of fisting advice given to new fisters is "Take satisfaction in your current trajectory rather than in your current results." This advice is a good reminder that development of depth is a very long process. Racing to the finish line can be problematic and risky. It can also be disheartening when evidence of advancement doesn't come quickly. A heavy focus on the destination can detract from the pleasures of the journey.

It is not uncommon for it to take a decade of regular depth play to reach the elbow.

James Clear, though not a fister, provides good fisting advice for hole development.

Making Peace with Risk

Hundreds of traditional fisting sessions occur daily without severe, life threatening injury—consequential risk is relatively low. The risk of serious injury with depth fisting is significantly higher. Bottoms that pursue depth must make peace with the fact that they could be seriously hurt and hospitalized from a fisting session.

Making peace does not mean abandoning all precaution. Anxiety about injury shouldn't dissappear completely. The anxiety helps depth fisters to stay present and practice restraint with each play session.

Injury risks increases proportionately with depth play; fisters need to make peace with the possiblity of hospitalization. If they cannot, then depth fisting should be avoided.

Training and Conditioning

To become deep, almost all fisters have to undergo some form of training and conditioning.

Conditioning activities are generally more important, as depth play is acheived by reprogramming the fist chute to feel at ease with large foreign objects progressing and lingering deep within the upper fist chute. Conditioning programs:

  • Dilate the taeniae coli and structural tissue that creates segments within the colon, including the second hole.
  • Expand the smooth muscle tissue that forms the fist chute channel (lumen).
  • Diminish reflex intensity, specifically reflexes which create peristaltic waves of expulsion.

A depth fister will log hundreds of hours of insertion in successful depth conditioning.

VOCABULARY

Training

  1. Noun a broad process of practicing to improve a skill or capability.

Conditioning

  1. Noun a focused process of adapting the body so it can better tolerate or perform a specific physical demand.

Frequency and Duration

Regular play facilitates depth progression. Like other forms of physical conditioning, sporadic training will not produce consistent growth and development. Conversely, daily play doesn't allow the colon and mucosal membrane to fully recover. An angry colon prevents depth progression. Just as conventional training programs incorporate rest days, depth-development routines should allow adequate time between sessions for recovery.

For most players, two or three depth sessions per week provide sufficient training frequency. Two sessions are generally preferable, while three may begin to approach the upper end of a sustainable routine.

One of the primary reasons for limited sessions is colonic health. Deep, comprehensive, daily douches are not advised by GI practitioners. If fisters want to train more frequently than twice a week, toy play helps address some colonic concerns. Solo sessions with toys can utilize less comprehensive douches. A limited douche removes most fecal material before training and accidents are addressed as needed.

Twice a week for depth training is sufficient to obtain reasonable gains.

Play Partners

There are several types of play partners available to depth bottoms:

  • Versatile Depth Players | Partners with personal depth experience that understand the physical and psychological experience of their partner and are able to modify styles and practices accordingly.
  • Anatomically Gifted Individuals | Partners with smaller frames can penetrate deeper with less physical trauma on the hole.
  • Service Tops | Partners are highly perceptive individuals that are able to read bottoms and rapidly adjust to their needs and wants.
  • Submissive Versatiles | Partners are attentive and eager to follow instruction to satisfy their playmates' needs.
  • Perversely Curios | Partners want to experience new things while still acknowledging their limited skills, thus they proceed with enthusiastic caution.
  • Experienced Fisters | Partners with extensive fisting experience and a strong understanding of established protocols, standards, and etiquette.

Most depth players are at greatest ease with other depth players but are also happy to engage with those with limited depth experience as long as they are willing to learn and adapt. Very few depth players are comfortable with dominant tops and sadistic tops.

For fisters starting their depth journey, it is helpful to find a versatile depth player for a mentor or coach and a trustworthy, small-framed service top or submissive vers for regular playdates.

Availability is also key, as depth progress is made when multiple play dates occur each week.

Toys

The fastest gains in depth Depth are typically achieved through consistent and varied toy play.

Depth bottoms use toys for the following reasons:

  • Reprogramming | The nervous system must undergo massive changes to interpret fisting as highly pleasureable and override reflexes to allow objects (hands and arms) to travel in the opposite direction of the regular contents of the colon.
  • Dilation | The smooth muscle tissue and the structural connective tissue must be gradually stretched to prevent perforation injuries.
  • Remodeling | The pelvic inlet and outlet can undergo growth that creates easier passage through widening of the pelvic inlet and outlet.

Toys, unlike play partners, provide the ability to size up or down. Toys are always available for play. Toys offer symmetry and consistency needed for neural reprogramming.

From His Perspective

Role

Most tops who engage in depth play recognize that the depth achieved during a session is based almost entirely on the bottom. This does not mean that he accepts his only role in depth play is that of a human dildo. His arm may be a dildo, but his hand and his presence carry specific responsibilities.

In depth play, the top will use his hand to:

  • Identify and Align the Pathway | Since there is no flexibility in the arm, the top uses his hand to identify and straighten the pathway. This may involve gently tugging or coaxing the colon into alignment over the hand.
  • Evaluate Tension within the Fist Chute | Because the bottom cannot feel tension on the colonic walls in the same way the top can feel it through his hand, the top evaluates how taut the tissue feels and retreats when there is no additional space or give.
  • Encourage Closed Segments to Open | Natural segmentation creates ring-like restrictions within the colon. Tops use fingers to massage and tickle these areas and gentle pistoning to trigger relaxation of these structures.

A good depth top also focuses on keeping his partner in the appropriate headspace during depth insertion. This includes limiting external distractions and using techniques that help the bottom remain relaxed and focused during intense internal stimulation.

For example, the top may dismiss or admonish others in the play environment to be respectful. He may also encourage breathing and meditative techniques that trigger relaxation.

Finally, the top shares responsibility for safety during a session. He should abort play if the bottom is no longer cognitively present or capable of making sound decisions. He should also monitor the bottom's body language for involuntary signs of pain or distress. A bottom may tense, recoil, grimace, or otherwise react to something being wrong without consciously recognizing or communicating the response.

Mistakes, Myths, and Misconceptions

Questions and Answers

As a bottom, the length of time to develop depth capabilities is dependent on your genetic makeup and to your dedication to hole training and conditioning. Regular play, especially with toys, expidites the process. With regular play (twice a week), typical development may fall within these time frames:

  • Mid-forearm: 2 - 4 years
  • High-forearm: 5 - 8 years
  • Elbow: 10 - 12 years
  • Bicep: 13 - 15 years
  • Shoulder: 15 - 20 years

No. Depth can come from regular play with skilled tops; however, the tops you play with for depth training must generally have smaller hands. Toys allow you to play multiple times a week. Playmates often have schedules that do not correspond with a depth hole training routine.

No. Many depth bottoms fist without chems. Gains sometimes come faster with chems, but risk of serious injury also comes with chem use when depth training.

Protocols

Protocols include standard practices and etiquette followed by the majority of the fisting community. Typically, these are things that new fisters pick up over time.

Etiquette

Etiquette refers to how you treat others in a specific fisting scenario.

Standard Practices

Standard Practices refers to common sense behaviors related to fisting activities.
